Standard 3: Planning and Implementation
“A physical educator plans and implements developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with local, state, and national standards to address the diverse needs of all students”
Element 3.1: Design and implement short and long-term plans that are linked to program and instructional goals as well as a variety of student needs
Artifact: Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Date: Spring 2011
Reflection
In PED 356 Adapted Physical Education and Sport, each student was assigned an adapted student to work with throughout the semester in lab and develop an Individualize Education Plan at the end of the semester based on the student’s performance in the gym and in the pool. The IEP focused on the current performance of the student as well as the long-term goals and short term objectives that are best fitting for the student and their needs. The IEP determines if the student is eligible for adapted physical education services or if they can be included in general physical education based on their behaviors and assessment
My results showed that my student was eligible for adapted physical education every day for one hour Monday through Friday. The way that I came to this conclusion was based on my pre and post assessment of my student as well as my observations of my student in the pool throughout the semester. In the IEP I also set up goals that I believed my student would be able to achieve in a specific amount of time. As a physical educator it is important to be able to plan ahead and set long-term goals that are attainable for your students to reach. As a physical educator there will be students that need more guidance than others and it is also important to be able to make these modifications for these students and have them be included with the rest of their classmates.
