Standard 2: Skill and Fitness-Based Competence
“A physical educator is a physically educated individual with the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards”
Element 2.1: Demonstrate personal competence in motor skill performance for a variety of physical activities and movement patterns
Artifact: Cardiovascular Fitness and Flexibility Fitness Plan
Date: Fall 2008
Reflection
In PED 182 Health Related Physical Fitness, an assignment that was given to the class was to create two fitness plans throughout the semester for seven weeks. Before developing the fitness plan, I took part in a number of tests in class to see where my current cardiovascular fitness and flexibility was and what areas I needed to work on. Some of the fitness tests included the one-mile walk/run as well as the back saver sit and reach. Using these tests helped me to determine my goals for the fitness plan and what I wanted to see myself achieve by the end of the seven weeks of training.
My results show that I would be able to set up a fitness program for my students with the correct pre-assessments used in class. In a physical education class, I would be able to conduct cardiovascular and fitness activities to see the level of fitness that my students are at and have them set goals for where they want to end up once they finish their fitness plan. As a physical educator, I will be competent in motor skill performance and I will be able to give my students suggestions if they ask for me to help them set up a fitness plan to become physically fit. If I am able to give them guidance in these areas, then they will be able to develop their own fitness plan with the proper education in the subject.
